Z for Prez

On a sunny day in Arvada, Colorado, the children of Vanderhoof Elementary bounded from a line of bright yellow buses. Before the students could pump up their Reeboks, they were bombarded by “Z for Prez” stickers and flyers. Little did the school children know, they were the target of Zach Knaus’ inaugural political campaign.

If he wasn’t changing out of football pads into soccer cleats before the next game, Zach was running around the neighborhood placing new candidate signs.

Zach knew his run for elementary school president would be his moment in the spotlight. He envisioned his impending elementary school presidency as the beginning of a long career in elected office. Unfortunately, his world came crashing down when his “Z for Prez” candidacy was lost, by a rumored three votes, and he forever retired his candidate hat.

But Zach didn’t abandon his love of politics, and it soon grew into an appreciation and talent for communications strategy. Studying political science at the University of Colorado, he found his true calling while interning in the Senate Majority Media Office at the State Capitol.

Zach was hired to work for the Senate to develop communications strategy. The thrill of day-to-day press operations captivated Zach’s attention, and over the years, he found fulfillment through his work to improve the lives of Coloradans. The behind-the-scenes opportunity to learn politics and craft communications strategies was the experience of a lifetime.

In 2007, MGA was looking for candidates, and Zach once again threw his hat in the ring. This time, he won. Z may not be the Pres, but he’s a critical part of the MGA team.
