Conversations That Matter

Reflections on 23 Years
by Cricket 316 days ago

MGA Communications, Inc., called 1125 17th Street home for 23 years. While we have moved on to a new space, we have tried to spend some time reflecting on our move. As we look back, we are reminded of all of the changes we’ve noticed and been in the middle of over the years.

The building we were in changed its name at least three times. In 1987 when we moved in, it was the middle of the 1980’s energy bust. Due to the economic situation, the rent fees downtown were at an  all time low and there were many vacant buildings on 17th Street (I swear I saw tumbleweeds blowing through downtown). The Tabor Center was finished in 1984. We still remember the top floor showing “This is the last piece” on the steel girders before the skin was finally put on the building.

There were very few restaurants and Larimer Street was just becoming a restaurant haven. Coors Field and the Rockies were not even in the picture yet and the Platte Valley only included the river and railroad tracks.

Wow…as we reflect back on how long we were there and how the neighborhood changed around us, I realized that a lot happened in our 23 years at 1125 17th Street. We will miss it there, but we are excited about a new beginning at 1999 Broadway.

One way I do this is by trying new things. In recent years, this has included Spanish, English horse riding, triathlons, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, knitting, and crocheting. Earlier this month, I learned how to shoot a handgun.

It’s my junior year at the University of Northern Colorado, and it feels like just yesterday I set foot on the campus as a wide-eyed freshman full of excitement and direction. Three years later I am still full of excitement. However, I have recently changed direction from business management to journalism with an emphasis in public relations and advertising.

Hello. My name is Jimmy Luthye, and I am a shadow. I am also a soon-to-graduate senior at the University of Colorado Boulder, studying psychology and communication. I stumbled into public relations late in my college career but have quickly fallen in love with the field. Now that you know a bit about me, allow me to talk for a moment about my experience as a shadow at MGA Communications.
