We didn’t have electricity (I didn’t see color television until we moved to Denver when I was seven). My mom cooked on our wood-burning stove that heated our tiny home (built by hand by my parents). She pickled cucumbers, and canned tomatoes, peaches, pears, dilly beans, and more. As my dad once told me, she made “food for the belly, food for the heart” and she “could make something out of nothing and make it taste great.” Kip Cheroutes, Vice President of Public Affairs at MGA Communications, shares one of his childhood, holiday memories.
